USMCA joint review (July 1, 2026)
The first six-year joint review of the U.S.–Mexico–Canada Agreement is due July 1, 2026. If the parties do not confirm extension, USMCA enters annual reviews until its 2036 sunset — injecting duty uncertainty into every North American supply chain that relies on USMCA preference. USTR ran public hearings in late 2025; the review outcome will shape tariff exposure for Canada and Mexico sourcing for years.

IEEPA border tariffs on Canada (struck down)
25% tariffs on non-USMCA-qualifying Canadian goods (10% on energy and potash), imposed March 2025 over drug-trafficking concerns after a one-month pause. USMCA-originating goods were exempted days after the tariffs took effect. The Supreme Court's February 2026 IEEPA ruling voided the program; paid duties are potentially refundable.
IEEPA border tariffs on Mexico (struck down)
25% tariffs on non-USMCA-qualifying Mexican goods, imposed March 2025 over border-security and drug-trafficking concerns after a one-month pause, with USMCA-originating goods exempted days later. The Supreme Court's February 2026 IEEPA ruling voided the program; paid duties are potentially refundable.
U.S.–China reciprocal tariff truce (expires November 10, 2026)
The May 2025 Geneva agreement suspended the triple-digit escalation between the U.S. and China; the November 2025 Kuala Lumpur arrangement extended the suspension through November 10, 2026, leaving a 10% reciprocal rate in place. The Supreme Court's February 2026 ruling voided the underlying IEEPA tariffs, but the truce still frames negotiations: as of June 2026 both sides have discussed terms for restoring tariffs under other authorities, and the truce's expiry remains the pivotal date in U.S.–China trade.
Current rate: Heightened reciprocal rates suspended; 10% rate remained during suspension (voided Feb 2026)
