Tariff measures affecting this code

25% tariffs on imported passenger vehicles and light trucks since April 2025, extended to key auto parts in May 2025. USMCA-qualifying vehicles are tariffed only on non-U.S. content, and an import-adjustment offset phases down support for U.S. assemblers. Unaffected by the IEEPA ruling.

Current rate: 25% on passenger vehicles, light trucks, and listed auto parts

The original China tariffs: 25% on roughly $250B of imports (Lists 1–3) and 7.5% on List 4A, in force since 2018–2020, plus the 2024 four-year-review increases on strategic sectors — including 100% on EVs, 50% on solar cells and semiconductors, and 25% on lithium-ion batteries. These survived the IEEPA ruling untouched and remain the bedrock of U.S.–China tariff exposure. USTR initiated a second statutory four-year review in May 2026; continuation-request windows closed in July and August 2026 and the next phase has no published date. Since July 24, 2026 a separate 12.5% Section 301 forced-labor duty stacks on top.

Current rate: 25% (Lists 1–3); 7.5% (List 4A); strategic-sector increases incl. 100% EVs, 50% solar cells and semiconductors, 25% lithium-ion batteries

Three proclamations of July 20, 2026 (Nos. 11046, 11047 and 11048) invoke Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930 — a rarely used provision that lets the President answer foreign discrimination against U.S. commerce with duties of up to 50% — to impose an additional 50% ad valorem duty on annex-listed Canadian alcoholic beverages, dairy products and motor vehicles. Proclamation 11056 of August 18 delayed the start by three days while Canada signalled it would remove the measures, so duties apply to goods entered on or after 12:01 a.m. ET August 22, 2026; no further suspension has been published. Articles already subject to Section 232 duties are excluded, so vehicles covered by the Section 232 auto tariffs sit outside this action; the annexes define exactly which lines are covered.

Current rate: 50% additional ad valorem on annex-listed products of Canada: alcoholic beverages (HTS 2203–2208), dairy products, and motor vehicles not subject to Section 232 duties
